This Teetotaler Alcohol Free Red Wine has been produced through a method known as vacuum distillation at low temperature, the most traditional and least aggressive method of dealcoholisation. Through this sophisticated method, it is processed without temperature aggression or pressure. The wine is previously fermented in stainless steel tanks under strictly controlled conditions. With this “deconstruction”, it minimises the risk of loss of the wine’s aromatic components. The full explanation of how this is done can be found on Teetotaler.com

A word about the founder:

Teetotaler Wines was founded by an inspirational businesswoman from Ontario Canada Danijela Kovac.

“It’s all about providing options! Teetotaler Wines was born out of wanting to create another option for those of us who do not drink alcohol! I am a Teetotaler myself and have been for quite some time. I went many years without having anything good to drink and it definitely affected my relationship with food and dining as a whole. I really missed having that glass of wine with dinner, especially with foods, which only wine could be paired with. We are made to believe food, wine and company are what pleasure is all about, however when you remove the wine, it creates this gap that is quite noticeable. I essentially stopped dining out because of it.

When I first discovered non-alcoholic wine, a wine that has been made via traditional methods then dealcoholized, I was absolutely ecstatic! I literally jumped for joy as I could finally savour what I used to gain so much pleasure from, good food!”

A Note From Andy: Danijela is one of the most passionate people I have met in this industry, she is dedicated to delivering great quality alcohol free drinks and her wine is the best I’ve tasted. I caught up with her recently to ask her a few questions regarding her motivations and passions behind this great brand.

Andy: How would you best describe your passion for what you do?

Danijela: “The dining experience on a whole is what I am truly passionate about and working in the hospitality industry on and off for over 25 years is where it stems from. It was my role, a role I took seriously, to ensure the entire dining experience was a memorable one. For me, the experience of a perfectly paired wine with a favourite dish along with exceptional service is what pleasure is all about, however when the wine was removed it created a disconnect, which was quite noticeable”

Andy: What first got you into the world of Alcohol-Free Wines?

Danijela: “It’s all about providing options! Teetotaler Wines was born out wanting to create another option for those of us who do not consume alcohol! I am a Teetotaler myself and have been for quite some time. I went many years without having anything good to drink and it definitely affected my relationship with food and dining on a whole.

When I first discovered non-alcoholic wine, a wine that has been made via traditional methods then dealcoholized, I was absolutely ecstatic! I literally jumped for joy as I could finally savour what I used to gain so much pleasure from, good food!”

Andy: The branding on your range is so stunning, why the birds of your labels?

Danijela: “The birds embody freedom, freedom from the attachment to alcohol. They are a representation of my journey with sobriety. I remember one day at the beginning of my sobriety; I was riding my bike and I heard the birds chirping. It occurred to me, that was the first time I actually heard them and at that very moment, I was present and not stuck in my head, as I was for so many years prior. It was quite beautiful and I moment I would never forget.”

Andy: You mention on your website that pairing Alcohol-Free Wine with food is important to fully appreciate the flavour, what are your favourite combinations of food and Teetotaler wines?

Danijela: “Yes! It is so important as this is what Teetotaler Wines was created for! To bring back that all-encompassing dining experience for those of us wine lovers! This is not to say other beverages such as nonalcoholic beers or cocktails do not go; it is all about preference.

The Teetotaler Red is a full-bodied Red, made from 100% tempranillo grapes, pairs best with Spanish, Italian or Mexican inspired dishes. I am definitely a meat eater and one of my favorites is a medium rare grilled Steak and Frites.

As the Teetotaler White, made from 100% Airen grapes, has enough acidity to match best with most seafood dishes, I found this particular wine pairs beautifully with Asian inspired dishes. One of my most favourite pairings with the Teetotaler White is Sushi! Other fabulous pairings would be spicy Indian curries, cream-based pastas and hearty salads.

The Sparkling Rose with its fine bubbles and citrusy notes, pairs well with a variety of dishes such as avocado toast, eggs benedict and one of my absolute favourites, fried chicken! You just gotta try it!

Andy: What next for the Teetotaler brand?

Danijela: “As this is just the beginning, there are many exciting adventures for Teetotaler Wines on the horizon, but definitely look out for some new additions to the Teetotaler Wines line.”
