About Wold Top Brewery:

Wold Top Brewery, founded in 2003 by Tom and Gill Mellor, is a family-run business located on their farm in the Yorkshire Wolds. They are known for brewing real ales using traditional methods and recipes, with a focus on using home-grown barley and chalk-filtered water from their own borehole. The brewery is run by the third and fourth generations of the Mellor family, with Tom and Gill initially joined by their daughter Kate and her husband Alex, and more recently, by their daughter Jenni and her husband Nick

Key aspects of Wold Top's sustainability practices:

Renewable Energy: They utilize wind turbines to generate electricity for the brewery and their homes.

Local Sourcing: They grow their own barley on the farm and source other ingredients locally.

Biodiversity: They maintain wildlife-rich grassland and implement stewardship schemes to protect local ecosystems.

Water Conservation: They use pure, chalk-filtered water from their own borehole.

Carbon Footprint Reduction: They focus on sustainable farming practices, including crop rotations and cover cropping, to improve soil health and reduce carbon emissions.

Local Economy Support: They employ local people and support other local businesses.

A Note from Andy: I love the ethics of Wold Top, the fact they grow the barley and use water from a bore hole on the farm is awesome. The sustainability of this great company and the people who work in it are to be really admired. We try hard to bring you great product and try to encourage you to support real people making a difference.
